launch of the kiwi-biolab

On 1st May, the funding of the KIWI-biolab at the TU Berlin, one of three international AI future laboratories, officially began. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) will provide funding of five million euros each for the next three years. The spokesperson of the future laboratory is Prof. Dr. Peter Neubauer, head of the Department of Bioprocess Engineering. KIWI-biolab will combine technologies of artificial intelligence with biotechnology, working in close cooperation with international scientists*. The aim is to analyse data on microorganisms and to enable computers to independently plan and optimise laboratory experiments. The focus is on the development of new drugs and the production of sustainable plastics and raw materials. The three future laboratories were selected by an independent jury of experts from a total of 14 applications in which over 35 German and more than 70 foreign research institutions participated.
